FAQs
Got questionswe've got answers!
Are you new to Crossings and have a few questions? Never been to Crossings and curious about a few things? We often find that people who visit Crossings, and even some who have been around for awhile, have a number of questions. That is understandable—I’ve been around for seven years and I still have some questions. My name is David Gibson, and I am the Pastor of Connection Ministries. What is a Pastor of Connection Ministries? My job is all about helping people find their way into the life of this church. If you have questions, I’d love to help you find some answers. Below you’ll find some of the most common questions I hear, and if this doesn’t answer your question, give me a call. I’d love to help you get connected.
- What is that humongous building on Portland and Memorial?
It’s a community college ... no, seriously, it’s a church—a place where people gather to build healthy relationships, grow, and serve one another. I know that the building seems very large, but on the inside, you’ll find people like you, people who are looking for healthy relationships and some direction for life. A first time visitor recently told me, “I expected your greeters to say hi and be friendly, but I can’t believe how many church members greeted me.”
- If I visit, will somebody come knocking on my door?
No. We will not come knocking on your door, but we do want you to know how important you are to us, so we will drop off a bag of cookies on your front door. Now these are not your crusty old store- bought cookies—these are seriously good chocolate chip cookies baked in our own kitchen. I have to admit I have gained a few pounds eating some of the leftovers! We will also give you a brief courtesy call to thank you for your visit and to answer any questions you may have. (Sometimes people tell me they’ve visited before, but didn’t receive any of those famous cookies. Be sure to fill out a Friendship Card when you visit, and we’ll send you cookies and a newsletter ... but we won’t come knocking on your door!)
- If I visit, will I have to stand up and be introduced?
That practice is a little outdated, and we are much more sophisticated. We take your picture as you come in and put it up on our video screens. I had you going, didn’t I! Really, we will not do anything to embarrass you when you visit Crossings.
- You have three services on Sunday morning. What are the differences?
The 9:30 and 11 a.m. services, located in the Sanctuary, are identical. These services feature worship led by Pastor George Skramstad, the Voices of Crossings choir, a praise team, and the Festival Orchestra. The 10:45 service meets in the Gym and features band-driven worship, usually led by local recording artist Jami Smith. The atmosphere in the Gym is just a bit more laid back than the Sanctuary.
- Is there childcare during the services?
The Nursery (0-3 years) is available during all services. At 9:30, Sunday School classes are offered for kids four years through 6th grade, and students in 7th-12th grade get together for discussions about the issues they are facing in life. During the 10:45 and 11 a.m. services, Children’s Church is available for children four years through 1st grade. Children accompany you into the service and are dismissed after worship to go to Children’s Church.
- Where is the best place to park?
Great question. I’ve found that it depends on where you are going in the building. We have a new interactive building tour on our website. Before you come, please explore the campus. This will help you determine which entrance is closest to your destination.
- How can I get more information about Crossings?
Two of the best sources of information are our weekly e-letter, Crossings xPress, and our monthly newsletter, Crossings News. Another great source of information is our website, crossingsokc.org. Last but not least, you are always welcome to call the Connection Ministries office at 755-2227 and talk to me or my assistant, Corie Holbrook.
I hope this has helped answer some of your questions. We do have a large building, but only because we’ve chosen to make room for people to connect in healthy relationships, grow spiritually, and serve one another. Crossings is a community of people from many different stages and walks of life who have experienced a new way to live. We’d love to have you join us this Sunday!

Frequently Asked Questions About our Beliefs
The following questions are often raised in conversations about the beliefs of Crossings. One of the commitments of Crossings is found in a statement from Augustine: “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love.”
When and how will Jesus return? Scripture is clear that Jesus will one day return. Many scholars and churches have chosen to focus on discovering when that day will be and how it will happen. Not demeaning those who choose to do such, Crossings is focused on the message of Christ and His call for humanity to be prepared for His return, whenever and however that may occur.
Are the ‘Gifts of the Spirit’ for today? We affirm that the Holy Spirit continues to give gifts to every believer for the building up of the Church.
Is speaking in tongues evidence of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives? Recognizing that speaking in tongues is a spiritual gift, given by the Holy Spirit, we do not find evidence in scripture that it is the only evidence of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling in our lives. We do not practice speaking in tongues in our corporate worship or teaching environments.
Can women serve in leadership positions in the Church? We affirm and encourage all who have been called and gifted in leadership roles, regardless of gender, to serve in whatever capacity God so leads.
