Ordinances

Ordinances and Other Regular Practices

The following are ordinances and regular practices observed at Crossings Community Church.
Virtual Tour
    Baptism
      What is Christian baptism?
Christian baptism is a symbolic act that represents the new life one has found in following Jesus. It symbolizes the washing away of an old way of life. It symbolizes new birth into a life with Christ. It represents the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the new believer.

Christian baptism is the outward sign of an inward change.

Is Christian baptism the same as salvation?
No. Baptism is simply the outward sign of something that has happened within one’s life.
Is Christian baptism required for church membership?
No. At Crossings, anyone who has decided to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and who has become involved in the life of this church is considered a member.
      When should I be baptized?
We encourage anyone who has chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to be baptized. This is a significant event in your life and it is important that your church family celebrate your new life with you.
When is the next baptism service?
Baptisms are held during the 9:30 am and 11 am sanctuary worship services on the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of every month. If you are interested in being baptized, contact Becky Sanders at 755-2227, ext 201.

    Communion

      What is communion?
The Bible tells us that on the night Jesus was arrested, He was celebrating the Passover meal with His disciples. During this meal, He took a loaf of bread and told them that the bread represented His body, which would be broken for them. He then took a cup of wine and told them that the wine represented His blood, which would be poured out for the forgiveness of sins. After eating and drinking together, He instructed them to do this in the future, as a way of remembering what would soon take place: His crucifixion. Taking communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is a time of remembering the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ. The bread and the juice are symbolic reminders of the body and blood of Jesus.
      Why take communion?
Communion causes us to remember the sacrifice of death made by Jesus Christ. In eating the bread and drinking the juice, we proclaim His death and our reliance on His sacrifice.
      Who should take communion?
Communion should only be taken by those who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Crossings practices open communion, which means that you do not need to be a member of Crossings to take communion. Every believer is invited to partake of the bread and juice.
      When do we take communion?
The Bible never specifies how often a community of believers should take communion. At Crossings, communion is taken in each worship service on the 1st Sunday of every month. There are also special worship services throughout the year where communion may be served.

    Parent and Child Dedication

      What is parent/child dedication?
Parent/child dedication at Crossings is a commitment for parents. It is recognition of your solemn responsibility to raise your child in a Christian home and a church where s/he may come to know Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior. The dedication provides you, as a parent, an opportunity to make this commitment public before God, your friends, and family. In this dedication, Crossings Community Church also commits to provide a loving, teaching community with fellowship, counseling, and prayer for your family.
Is parent/child dedication the same as infant baptism?
Child dedication at Crossings Community Church is not infant baptism. We do not offer baptism prior to a person’s choosing to believe in Christ.
How can I dedicate myself and my child?
All parents interested in dedicating their children are required to attend a one-hour parent/child class, held on certain Sunday mornings during the 9:30 am hour. Once parents have taken the class, they can have their child dedicated on any dedication services offered after the class they have taken.

Read more about parent/child dedications at Crossings.

To register for a class, contact Reagan at 755-2227, ext. 242.
