Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap—Creating Relationships in the Community

Over the past four years, Crossings has diligently partnered with local inner-city schools in order to provide further support to students and teachers.

Your generosity of time and talents in the past has taken the Bridging the Gap ministry beyond the early vision, has helped develop great relationships with teachers and students at the schools sponsored by Crossings, and has provided tangible demonstration of Christ’s love.

Take a minute; change a life.

Bridging the Gap workday 2008

Teacher lounge makeover at Eugene Fields Paint, hammers, and nails: Crossings volunteers gathered on Saturday, August 2, for the annual summer Bridging the Gap workday at five different Oklahoma City area schools.

“This was our fourth year working with these schools,” explains Pam Millington, Pastor of Missions Ministries. “What started as an annual workday has grown to a relational, hands-on, day-to-day partnership. Jesus is alive and well in these schools through the regular presence of Crossings volunteers.”

Also part of this school sponsorship was the teacher supply drive. Crossings participants donated needed school supplies to teachers for use in their classrooms for the coming school year.

Teacher lounge makeover at Shidler This year, Crossings announced yet another opportunity to support teachers at Eugene Field Elementary. Individuals who chose to participate in this program were encouraged to commit to their assigned teacher for the entire year. Responsibilities included taking part in the annual teacher supply drive, praying weekly for their sponsored teacher, making monthly personal contact—send a card, make a call, help in the classroom, or provide a small gift/service— considering the role of homeroom mom or dad, and enjoying continued communication with the teacher and students.

Notes of Thanks

    Mrs. Millington
This is a note to express my heartfelt thanks for all that Crossings has done for our school. There are often so few positive experiences in the lives of our students that I just know—somewhere, sometime—they will think back to the “kindness of strangers” who cleaned their playground, painted their classrooms, brought them backpacks, school supplies, and more.

I so appreciate that you have chosen our students to be the beneficiaries as your members model the attributes of Christ. Your care, thoughtfulness, and generosity do not go unnoticed.

—Sincerely, Marilyn Tarron, Grade 2, Eugene Field Elementary

Dear Members of Crossings Community Church,
I would like to thank you for all you do for the children and teachers of our school. Our building looks beautiful. Today I received some gift cards to purchase supplies for my classroom. I bought pencil boxes, colored pencils, crayons, homework folders, glue, scissors, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, and educational name tags for their desks. I only had three students come to school with these items and would be buying them myself if it were not for your help. I wish you could see the impact your time and money have made on our school. Sometimes what we think is something little, can really make a big difference.
