Bridging the Gap—Creating Relationships in the Community
In only a few short years, Bridging the Gap at Crossings Community Church has blossomed from a ministry providing an annual workday and teacher supply drive, to one that has Crossings volunteers in the schools and communities daily.
BTG is a partnership between Crossings and five OKC inner-city schools, including Britton, Eugene Field, Shidler, and Stand Watie Elementary Schools and SeeWorth Academy.
"We do this in order to show people what the love of Jesus looks like in our surrounding community by recognizing the need and making it a priority to provide for the more than 2,400 students and 120 teachers of these schools,” said Pam Millington, Pastor of Missions & Outreach Ministry.
Church leaders know that the ministry has become fun, personally rewarding, and a Christ-like experience for all involved.
On any given day, you will find Crossings members participating in campus beautification work days, providing supplies to teachers, blessing students with backpacks at Christmas, coaching students in sports camps, monitoring academic tests, providing reading tutors, serving as homeroom mom/dad to a teacher for the year, teaching a Junior Achievement program in the classroom, and praying for the students and teachers.
In addition, Crossings provides pastoral counseling and support upon request. In the upcoming school year, Crossings members will participate in a new OKC School Board initiative which is assigning Advisory Committees comprised of parents and community partners to each school.
