Mission: Whiz Kids
Ministry: While (R)eading, W(R)iting, and A(R)ithmetic are considered the three most-important keys to learning, many educators and parents often strongly place reading as the one skill that school children must grasp well to achieve in life.

That’s exactly why Crossings Community Church has joined the city-wide Whiz Kids program, with two sites for young students experiencing reading difficulties.
Facts: Kathy Chenault is the Crossings site-coordinator for Crossings Comunidad Cristiana. "I have seen many wonderful relationships develop between tutors and students. Whiz Kids is great! It works! We have seen not only higher test scores, but attitudes of the children have changed for the better. Consider joining us this fall and change the life of a young person."
Serve:

Select Stand Watie children between second and sixth grade go to South Agnew Church of God, and students from Capitol Hill Elementary School go to Crossings Comunidad Cristiana. The inner-city church provides the facility, snack workers, snacks and some tutors while Crossings provides tutors and financial support.

The time together starts with a visit of the day over a snack. Next is "club time," where students hear a Bible story and learn a verse. During this time, the children are recognized for good behavior and achievements, encouraged, and made to feel special and loved. The tutors then go off with students and spend an hour for one-on-one reading and doing activities to help build academic skills. At the end of the day, each tutor takes his/her child home.

New Ministry Announcement
Kids Bible Club
This fall, Crossings is starting a new ministry at Stanley Hupfield Academy at Western Village (1508 N.W. 106 Street—one mile from Crossings Community Center). This after-school program (meets on the first Tuesday of every month October-May from 3-5 p.m.) is a Bible club specifically for 2nd-5th grade students and strategically puts Crossings in contact with kids who feed into John Marshall middle school. Our hope is that we can pour the love of Jesus into these kids’ lives beginning in their grade school years and continue into their time at John Marshall when they can attend The CLUB at Crossings Community Center.
